34 years and the handbrake has never needed adjusting on my MR2, it uses the rear disc pads with a special auto adjusting caliper, it does need to be reset when new pads are fitted though
It's not a bad system although the Volvo, yes that thing again has a crappy handbrake on it even after new disks and pads and being reset and the handbrake lever reset and the brakes pushed five times and the handbrake lever lifted and adjusted and..... And and and...

The handbrake on the Nissan Xtrail I had was useless, the dealer said they were all the same, to pass the CT, I had to take it in to be over adjusted the in again to have it reset to stop the brakes burning.
Taking off on a hill with a heavy trailer needed 3 legs:rolleyes:

The mechanical shoes need adjusting now and again, stripping checking for wear and lubricating ever so often, otherwise the electric activator will overwind and screw itself to destruction. Maintained will last a long time, lack of servicing cause fails. When will people realise you cannot just jump into your car every day and drive around without maintaining it.

what , now u tell me, I’ve got to work on it as well, lmao

ps, hope ur keeping safe and well mate

No worries and did think for a minute it was showing , lol

if u do end up this way more than happy to help

normally because there a sod to do I strip them completely down, clean everything up , new shoes , springs , if discs don’t look to clever new discs and pads, then final adjustment , that way it’s all done and dusted

i use a gap iid diagnostics to enter a dismount mode which takes the tension off the cables , allowing shoes to come off easier

indeed ref the lockdown , can see it lasting the summer

Those electronic park brakes need way more maintenance. Without regular cleaning they fail, often refusing to release. My old mechanical P38 handbrake is excellent and almost never needs adjustment or cleaning. You can feel when it does so no need to disassemble to see how it is doing.

I hate the bl**dy things and I don't even have one!

Same on my Jag. Takes bl**dy ages to wind it out to replace the pads but it is very good. Again though, it is all simple mechanics with no fiddly motors involved and you can feel how it is working every time you use it.

Very few if any Mk 2 or E type Jags were capable of passing the Tapley test at MOT, i just used to put them on a slight incline if they held they passed.

Summer i think is realistic if im honest with the lockdown to be some sort of normality for us all.
Whats the time frame on that i suppose its a long job to do.
