Great green Hibernia .
Ever since if fitted new cables a few years ago ,I have threatened to cut 15mm off the cable spring on the drum end .They're just too long and stop the shoes from opening properly.

Today I finally got round to 15-20 mm off the spring .Cut it with a hacksaw and slowly peeled off the waste bit .Now my handbrake actually stops the vehicle .I think I could have cut off another 10 or 15mm .

You do realise that you are meant to use the foot brake to stop the vehicle don't you? The hand brake (also known as the parking brake) is to ensure the car stays stopped once you have stopped with the foot brake.
