Hi , Ive searched for info on repairing the handbrake on my series 3 but still ahve some questions

im putting new shoes on, however even when i fully slacken off the main adjuster from the handbrake handle theres no way the drum will go back on, so is there another adjuster on the other side of the brake plate ?

also when i operate the mechanisum without the drum on the shoe spreader seams to have a huge amout of play in it and moves a lot on the back plate, is this normal ? is it worth buying a new one and what is it called ?

Ok, so there is an adjustment on the fixed expander, i couldnt see anything to move here though, i guess its a very small nut of some kind?

i remmber minis used a square bolt to adjust this

so the handbrake expander is normally quite loose, this isnt a problem ?

my s3 trannybrake only has the square adjuster on the fixed expander, found 180 degrees around the plate from the expander thats fixed to the lever - and it's very sensitive so dont go winding it in or out a couple of turns and expecting it to be there or there abouts - a half turn made the difference between the shoes locking or not touching

theres plenty of adjustments you can make using the level rods so yours may be slightly different

reet according to yer actual landy workshop manwell, you adjust the square adjuster till yer drum is just free. bear in mind that if you have the prop on and the rear wheels on the deck it will only turn a few degrees. even if the wheels are off the ground, unless yer called garth, it will still be hard to turn.

you then adjust the vertical rod to give you one or two clicks free movementat the lever
