Hi folks, long time no speak.

I have the last of the non car rangies with horizontal shoes and old type adjuster.
Anyway, rangie parked up for a year with handbrake off. The shoes will not engage and I've taken the prop off and the drum. Any tips fro releasing the expander? Adjuster works fine now I freed it, but the expander is stuck solid.

Plus, is the lever that the rod is attached to by the pin, (the lever that the cable attaches to), is that meant to pivot at all?

Thanks dudes.

Photos would help jog the memory;)

If it's a Classic with an LT230 type or BW transfer box if the expander is seized then you're going to have to start with penetrating oils & heat to free it off.
LT230: Lrcat
BW: Lrcat

If by 'lever that the rod is attached to by a pin' you mean AEU2736 (item 5 in the link) then yes, it flops about.

Thanks, I'll batter into it t'morrow.

The arm I was talking about is the bit that No5 is attached to outside the drum, the arm that the cable is attached to?

Thanks again.

Edit: Am I okay to tap the pivot rod in the expander from the shoe side?

To be honest your better off taking it off and stripping it. Grease tends to solidify and you'll never get it 100% without a proper clean up.

Several different handbrake systems.
Lrcat
Mine's this one: Lrcat and everythings a bit wobbly. Especially the collection of parts 22 to 25. When the locknuts 25 are tightened up on 24 to lock 22 & 23 that sub assembly becomes effectively one solid thing but it will wobble about when the handbrake is off.
Be careful hitting things hard that are seized, it can break things. You may be best removing it & using heat & penetrating fluids on the bench.

Yours will be the BW box.

heat and penetrating oil works best imo.

Mine seized on my 91 manual, but it stuck on a good smack on the drum with a copper mallet helped ;)
