set off this morning, got a warning peep then message’special programs not working’ or something similar. There was an icon lit up showing wheels skidding. I ran the car for about 15 miles, parked up and did some shopping. When I returned the start up was normal. Any ideas or suggestions please?

Battery poss 3 yrs old but in good state. Can’t answer the haldex service question but had main dealer service from new ( jan 2012 54k miles )
Haldex replaced under warranty at 2 yrs old. At the time technician told me they often need just topping up with fluid??
The Haldex needs a fluid change at 20k intervals, if issues are to be reduced.
Normally that warning on the first start of the day, is due to the voltage dropping too low while cranking over, which normally points to a failing battery.
If you read the fault codes you will see that it is probably 99% related to the haldex pump.
You gave the pump time to cool down and run again. It may be due to excess temperature produced by a dirty main filter and / or pump filter. The electric motor brushes may be reaching the end of their life or even (although less likely) a failure of the haldex oil temperature sensor.
The first reading of codes, then I would change the haldex oil, filter and pump cleaning.

Thanks Nodge 68. Checked battery receipt, just over 2 years ago, think I’ll get the haldex serviced. Disappointed with main dealer, unlikely to have it serviced there again after poor service and last year but one they managed to dent my drivers door, surprisingly they didn’t charge me for the dent though.
Thanks also Freespaña, although I don’t think overheating was the problem as it was the first start of the day. Seems like the consensus is the Haldex.
Separate issue I know but does anyone know of a local independent LR specialist in my area?

Temperature is an assumption. Code reading essential. The most likely thing is that it is the brushes of the electric motor. When starting the car, the pump precharges but if it does not generate pressure, it disconnects and the fault appears. At the next start, if the pump motor turns, there is no sign of failure, therefore the brushes of the pump motor are worn. What is done in these cases is to change the pump.

Sorry, in my ignorance I forgot to mention when the fault originally displayed I stopped and restarted the engine a couple of times but the fault continued to display. The thing is, if I change the pump and the problem recurs, then I’ll need to change the haldex which comes with a new pump, I have a dilemma.
After reading your and Nodge68 responses I consulted an independent LR gearbox etc specialist who agreed with both diagnoses but recommended seeing if it was just a low battery prior to getting involved in replacing pumps/ haldex units. I’m not aware of any problems with the battery but think, given the cost disparity it’s worth giving that a go first.
