Well as it happens the previous owner had put a larger intercooler on (which apprently had some naf welds) and FP the map was not standard so they uploaded a standard map, I have done 70+ miles today mixed driving i.e motorway, city / traffic and it feels much better and no limp mode.off to the south of France soon 600+ miles to cover in a day so will keep you posted
Got the same problem with a Ford focus Tdci, cuts out all the time ! Cleaned out EGR valve, and she ran for a day, then went on the blink again. Waiting to have new valve fitted as either valve stuck in either open or closed position. Pain in the arse for sure as it could be several things in reality!

Really good so far fingures crossed she feels much smoother (as can be expected for a defender!) i have done 202 ish miles and has not missed a beat.
I am feeling a bit more confident that i will actually make it to the S.France on Sunday
