Gutted!!!

Had the 110xs my59 11.5k for a week tomorrow and it's spent 3out of the 7 days in landrover, rattle started from what sounded like the exhaust which was proved to be the case. "not a problem couple of bolts need tightening" said the service rep. Driving down the dual carriageway and a complete loss of power, the turbo had clearly stop working, as it wasn't whistling away as normal, phone LR "we'll get it in tomorrow morning". Fair play! dispite being flatout they put me to the top of the list.

As the ecu light had come on, the diagnosis / fault code indecated the turbo had kicked the bucket, so a new one was ordered and fitted after three days of being without a car. Pick the car up drive home happens again. fantastic!!! weekend to Plymouth diving cancelled costing me a few £100! more worrying I'm taken the family to the south of france in ten days for two weeks 1,500 miles all in!! And I have lost a bit of confidence to be honest.

To that end any of you tech gurus got an idea of what the problem could be? The ecu light hasn't come on again dispite the loss of power and when I turn the engine off and back on its fine again, the only thing i can think of is I have had a LR snorkel fitted. So come on guys WTF ! To put it bluntly :)

I rekon the turbo wastegate is sticking and causing overboost which then puts the vehicle into limp mode. Get em to lube up and free off the wastegate and then give it a whirl.

That's a really good shout, mate thank you. It does judder a bit at low revs:high5:

Im having the exact same problem with my 90
So far have changed EGR, MAF checked turbo hoses swapped regular hose clip for mikalor clamp
No change
Land rover currently have my 90 (again)
Checking to see if ECU is causing over fuelling
You are not alone!

With this kind of thing, don't forget the physical condition of the wiring looms too. I had a similar problem when I'd just got my 2006 TD5, which several times put itself into limp mode, complete with yellow engine warning light. It would only run at tickover. You could drive it but only very slowly! This baffled me and several AA men. Eventually (and at some expense), a main stealer was able to narrow it down to wiring loom faults. This was after we'd considered such things as fuel pump, MAF, accelerator potentiometer and various other stuff. I know I'm not the only one, because several people on here have written about how intermittent electronic faults turned out to be wiring loom problems. Sometime in the mid 2000s Land Rover seems to have bought a batch of cable where the copper was inclined to get brittle and the insulation a bit tender. Add rainwater and road dirt and a little vibration and all sorts of funny things can happen

:pop2:well car is still with them and has been since 9am today. They have tried to replace each hose one at a time, removed the snorkel and the probelm persists. However they seem to think their is a glich with software and apprently when they serviced the car before i picked it up there was a performance filter.. So maybe it has been mapped? they are now trying to load a standard map back into it but it won't take it..O Joy!!

Sorry to hear about your 90 keep us posted..:pop2:

Funnily enough we're looking to see if mine has been mapped..interesting
They are of the opinion that the ECU is giving off the wrong fueling and stopping the turbo!

Hmm, mine does that too - some diagnostic equipment won't talk to my ECU and vice versa. Indeed, an AA man told me that his equipment indicated my engine wasn't running when it was. Hence the resort to a main dealer.

Well the latest is I get to pick it up tomorrow at 10am, when the new part comes in which apparently is a hose connected to the intercooler, as the old one had a split in it. Not sure if this is any good to you FP I will ask the question regarding the map tomorrow:)

If you wouldn't mind letting me know, checked the hoses last weekend as it was one of the things to look out for but they all seemed fine let me know how you get on, I've had two months of chasing this prob round the landy driving me nuts :)

Probably a daft thing to say but I run Transits and they are forever going in to limp mode all we do is pull over turn it off and turn it back on again got fed up with going back to the main dealer each time! :D

I've been trying that not always convenient pulling onto a motorway ;)

Mines usually after long runs of constant speed ie motorway, then when you come to a halt then accelerate off again.
I had to restart 5 times the other nite
No engine light comes on with mine,
Frustrating as hell
Has your transit been remapped?

No it hasn't to my knowledge but we get the Cog and exclamation mark come up the last time I sent it in to the dealer they stripped the egr valve down and noticed the manifold was cracked £700 later all fixed NOT! on our other transit similar thing but no lights come up wonder if the bulb was taken out?
