Simple ones first we have a yamaha EG012 pacifica and a practice amp- it arrived one day and never left.

I have tried on Numerous occasions for hours to get my fingers correctly positioned and not get a dull sound- it is in tune
Sadly I just don't seem to have the flexibility- is there a secret to it or am I suffering from short fingers and not flexible enough?

Practice practice practice then practice again. After a few days your finger ends will harden up and the little brains in the finger ends will remember where to go. I read that a part of your normally unused part of brain develops when you learn a new instrument.

Some people have it and some don't:D Me I don't like to listen to others.
Did the Guitar out smart you:D:p:p

Lean your hand round the neck more. :D

The muscle memory will come, but as has been said practise, your fingers will hurt, sometimes bleed if their soft.

Take some lessons. If you've failed at self teaching, might as well get some tuition. A bit of guidance in the right direction will make self teaching a heck of a lot easier.

could well be, it arrived and never left- maybe a lesson or two would be an idea.

Seeing as I'm failing miserably at the basics:doh:

The question is - Who would be able to teach Fanatic?:p:p And who is brave enough?:rolleyes::D

I know a lady who used to teach various musical instruments- friend of my Gran and lives 20 mins away- if she still does lessons it may be worth asking her first.

Oh and one of the books I have is learn to play like guitar greats- that will be some time never then, god knows why girlfriend picked that up when I can't even play a few nice chords on it

think a set of wireless headphones are the way forward- at least I can only inflict it on myself

look at the tutorials on youtube.... they're quite good

i also have an electric guitar but dont know how to play, altough I did manage to play a bit of a Metallica track just by following youtube videos...

as said above, most of it is practise... i was told that playing the blues scale over and over was a good exercise to get the muscles and fingers used to the positioning, not sure if thats right though

You'd probably only need a couple, just enough to show you the basics and get you started. Youtube is good and all, but it can't tell you what you are doing wrong.
