Hi All,

I have recently bought a Disco 1 and for the first few weeks, the only issue was a minor rubbing / grinding noise under heavy breaking. Kind of similar to a bikes buckled wheel rubbing on a brake pad but much louder.

Recently this has got louder and now occurs under normal driving also (not just braking) It seems to be much worse when turning to the right.

A little digging on google leads me to believe this is a left wheel bearing issue, does this sound about right ?

I have the Rave manual, but as a complete mechanical numpty, is this something a beginner could handle or would I be best of finding a local garage to take a looksy ? If so any ideas how much I should be paying ?

Cheers

Have you checked the brakepads? if it is the bearings then as long as your reasonably handy with the old spanner twirling then an hr either side will suffice to do the bearings. there is an "how to" on here if you do a search.

If you take it to a garage 45minutes each side tops. so 1.5hrs labour charge and about £30 fopr parts.

I am attempting a wheelbearing change this weekend so will update you how I get on with my first attempt at mechanics since playing with Lego as a child.
