Hi all
today got a bad crunching/grinding serious sounding noise from front drivers side, it comes and goes. touching brakes does not change the noise, so dont think its them. noise gets faster in line with cars speed. If its a bearing would it not make a noise all the time? or is it something more sinister and expensive.

my latest noise tured out to be a prop uj, but if its at the front then yopu would notice that from about 45mph shaking the steering.

jack up the wheels in turn abd spin them that will give you a clue as were to start.

+1

then whilst its up, Place your hands at the top and bottom on the wheel and wiggle back and forth, bearings generally a tiny bit of movement, anything over 5mm would suggest the bearings need replacing..

While checking all bearings spin wheels had one a wee while ago making expensive sounding noises and it turned out to be rust built up inside the disc rubbing on hub as wheel turning.

Sometimes there's a cheap & simple fix - but admittedly not often!

If still fitted, check the mud guard isn't catching on the disc - mine had rusted so badly on drivers front that it had collapsed and what was left was catching at the 3 o'clock postion as you look at the disc.

Just jacked up the front wheel and there is loads of play, as i am moving the wheel you can see the brake disc move also, would this be the bearing ???

thats the wheel bearing for sure...

take the half shaft out and you'll see what's wrong, there's probably nothing left of the bearing
