I never owned a 4x4 in the uk. Never had the means. Emergrated to the Middle East, Oman and now have an 1985 110.

Oman has no fences, no rules on trespassing and no real rules for the roads. Wild camping is the norm especially on the beach.

There is a little sand, but it's mostly rocks, mountains, canyons and waterfalls.

Thought I'd share some photos to let everyone know what they are missing out on.

Lived in Muscat for 15 years. Would still be there if wasn't for personal circumstances.

Crossing the Wahiba Sands is good as it takes three days and you see nothing but sand.

The Musandam is spectacular but the road to Salalah is boring.

Country's good for a bit of scuba as well....

and there is this.....

Coming back to the uk, it will be hard to get used to the fuel price. Never even think about using a full tank a day for some adventure.

Neil, where is that beach? Sifa?

Doing a north south wahiba a crossing in the new year followed by a short swing into the empty quarter. Can't wait.

It's lucky that the fuel
Is so cheap as it costs a fortune to look after a landrover here!

The beach is at Mirbat near Salalah. We were there for a diving trip and a visit to the BATT house. Nice clear water and sand whiter than Muscat way.

Filled my Landy with £70 worth of uneaded a few days ago. This is a bit of a problem as it is a 300tdi.

If your Landy costs a fortune to fix I bet you are taking it to 4x4 in Wadi Kabir. Don't. Take it to Adam Garage in Marbella. Everyone knows it, just go there and ask. Better service but no high prices. They replaced my J@@p engine block and rebuilt the rest for 300 rials.

I do the work myself at the moment as I'm trying to learn the car as well as I can.

Have been to the dealership for my discovery. Never again.

Went to Marbella. Found two shops. One o them was displaying a very lovely looking series they had just resprayed. They had sprayed everything on the underside with thick black paint. Including the swivels and uj's and brakes. Hmmm.

The cost I find is mostly getting Landy parts. Dubai is not too far but it's expensive.

It's not always sunny, but it is always dramatic.

Got cut off by rain the other week. Road turned to river about 5 minutes after we crossed it and turned back.

Fantastic, i was out there in 2001 for 6 months on exercise with the Army. Great part of the world and was nice to have a choice of vehicles and landscape to go play in while i was there.

I remember it being £10 a pint in the Hilton back then as well, good times:D
