Freelander 2 (LR2) Grease leaking from propshaft cv joint

Hi. Recently got a 2013 SD4 GS. I've been giving it a good check over. I noticed that the rear cv on the prop is leaking grease round the front cover. I am tipping that something must have been disturbed as it had the haldex removed and serviced by the previous owner. Any advice on re-greasing and sealing folks? I have cleaned it up since the photo and tightened the bolts as they weren't up to the correct torque and a little bit more has come out but not much. I'm obviously concerned about it running dry.

The bolts are stretch bolts, so are throw away items. They should be replaced after each removal, as they could loose their load capacity on the second tightening.

As for the leaking. I suspect the wrong Haldex removal technique was used, allowing the rear seal cover of the CV to get dislodged, allowing the grease to escape.

I'd not be overly concerned, if the leak is minor, however if the leak starts to fly off and cover components nearby, then a replacement CV or complete propshaft will be needed, if no replacement CV is available.

I've got some new bolts ready to fit. Looking at the replacement joint, it looks like there is a seal under the cover. Do you know if the covers are loose on the Original one. I was thinking remove bolts, re-grease and then apply some sealant before refitting with new bolts.

Afterba bit of thought I might leave it intact, change the bolts and take the clip off the gator and regrease from the end with a syringe and small tube. Then fit a new boot clip?

The cover is sealed to the joint with a rubber seal, which might well stop leaking, once the bolts are correctly tightened.

I'd not bother trying to re-grease the joint, as it'll lost almost nothing.

Just monitor the leak after the new bolts are fitted, and take any remedial action, if an issue arises later on.

Bolts it is then and I'll keep an eye on it . Cheers. Tony
