I got a new CB from maplin on Saturday. I had some trouble with the SWR reading, it was in the red on some channels. I decided to cut the coax lead and desolder it, one end was fine, the other had completely corroded inside, there was no sheath or dielectric or anything, just a crumbled mess. New cable made and I'm getting from less than 1.5 on channel 1, to just over 1.5 on channel 40. I also achieved a transmit distance of just under 19miles!

I will get some pics when I have sorted the mess I left on the dash.

No the antenna is a 6foot thing. It's huge! It makes the freelander look like its remote controlled!

I used to have a CB about 30 years ago (when I was young) had lots of fun in the car and the house. I used to have a 25ft thunder pole on the chimney, used to get a few neighbours complaining that I was messing up their TV LOL. The furthest I picked up another transmition was some trucker in America, Used to talk to people in Devon, Cornwall, and West Wales. Those were the days.

Here is the LEDs in the boot. I'm trying to get some bigger ones to make a mobile work lamp.

This is the outside view, they massively out perform incandescent lamps!

What LEDs did you use and where did you get them?

I just typed in ebay, LED strip, then clicked cheapest first; these popped up. I think they were termed "20LED Audi style DRL strip", or something like that. Only came to about £5 posted.

please answer what ebay number for those lights

I don't have it on me, but I will get it for you when I get back next weekend. The seller didn't have any other items for sale when I went back on to buy another set, so not sure they will have anymore.

Bugger the lights, where did you find the space to put the damn CB???

I removed the rubber mat/tray in the centre of the dash. Then just stuck it as close to the dash cluster plastic cover as I could, I also have a SWR meter right next to it, so it sits nice.

I will take a pic if I can bring myself to photo it when it's fixed this weekend.

if you swr (standing wave ratio) is ok then take you meter out of line 1. you can lose power to the antenna 2. it can effect recieve. but of course this is upto you at least you are keeping a eye on it
