Gold coloured engine blocks?

I got a gold coloured engine block in me landy, so my question is this,
Does this mean its had a recon engine at one time or is it coz its on an H plate that possibly it was built as a 19j then converted to 200 tdi at later date because i know you could get the engine wi loom and tdi stickers and all the bits in a conversion kit.

Was told by army bloke wot built landys that only recon engines was coloured gold

think they are yeah

mines a gold one and its on a 1994 110 with a 200tdi.

Thats cos 200tdi's ar good as gold.
