I really like my 1.8 freebie but boy is she slow. The brakes are free, the vcu is fine but she really struggles to get to 70 up the slip road and ive never got her past 85. Are they all like this or have i got a lazy one.

Could be as simple as a dirty air filter, 1.8 is a revvy engine and so needs loads of air for best performance. lack of air will restrict the rev band.

Was speaking to a Ford mechanic a while back, he was telling me that the Ford Ka has baffles in the air intake plenum to restrict air flow.....basically the car is restricted/governed. By drilling these out you can increase performance. This doesnt apply to the 1.8 k-series though so more than likely its your air filter..... I hope

Just became the new (and well chuffed) owner of a 1.8 R plate myself, I have found it to be fairly nippy, however the power/torque on the K series comes into its own at 2.5-3.5 rpm so a bit later gear change might help! (as well as a new filter maybe)
