Afternoon everyone,

Freelander2 08 2.2 diesel.

What would you expect to pay to a professional mechanic to change all four glow plugs?

From my limited knowledge its one of the easier tasks.... but perhaps fiddly having to take off the manifold cover.

Any shrewd answers appreciated,

Thanks

It's a 2 hour job, but you'll also need more parts than just the glow plugs.
I changed mine while I was removing the swirl flaps from the manifold, but I wouldn't have bothered taking the manifold off just for the glow plugs, as the engine should start just fine without them working.

Thanks Nodge,

Based on two hours plus parts what would you expect to pay?

I'm a bit confused about how the plugs work as on testing they all need replacing. But the engine can still seemingly start unless the weather is really cold.

Cheers

It would depend on who's doing the work, I guess it would be anything from £120+ parts to over £300+ parts. If I wasn't doing it myself, I wouldn't bother paying for them to be changed.

They work or they don't. They can't test ok, but not work, just that same as a light bulb can't.

So today I was asked if you could lube spay glow plug insute with air intake manifold etc still in place i had no idea (anyone)??

It's pretty difficult to get to the glow plugs, and generally lubricant doesn't make any difference to ease of removal. Access is much more challenging than them being stuck.
I'm in 2 minds as to whether to remove the intake manifold to gain better access, or remove them through the access holes with the manifold in place.
For safety of the plugs, removal of the manifold is best.
It's about a 2 hour job regardless of removing the manifold or not. You'll need to plug the fuel lines unless you have the pump to prime the fuel system once completed.
