Replaced the glo-plugs ont green machine (200TDi Disco) yesterday.
one of the glo-plugs did not have the clamp nut tight, so when trying to tighten nut to lock wire in position, the whole centre of the glo-plug turned. I assume that this is not correct? can I just tighten it up or is it a send back jobby?
pics will follow as soon as.

Also (when yu can see the pics) the glo-plug from pot1 was a bit wet and oily. Do ya reckon this is likely to be rings or valve stem seals. I do have a problem that the motor is completely gutless when cold and wont pull out of my drive without reving the nuts off it. Any ideas? I dont really want it to be rings - it seems better when warm, but still dont like revving over 3000 RPM - seems to run out of breath - Turbo? Hoses?

almost forgot to ask - did an injun oil change a while back and I have seen mention on here of changing another oil filter, as well as the spin-on one, at the same time, what one is this? Is it the rocker breather filter or summat else. A "centrifugal" filter - or am I getting even more confused?

New Glo-plug - note gap between seal and clamp ring/nut.

I would try shorting the new plugs across the battery one by one to make sure they all heat up and glow red-I've had dead ones straight out of the box-the loose one I would send back, even if it works now it will fail quickly

what sort of mileage has it got on the clock? Does it breath heavy from the oil filler when the engine is running? Was there any oil around the outside of the suspect glow plug prior to removing it?

Send the dodgy glow plug back and get replacement.

125K (due a timing chain replace .). Havent checked. No. Am waiting for Foundry4x4 to come back to me ;).

Is it rattling? Have a look next time you have 5 mins to spare, They are usually pretty good.

If it aint breathing too heavy I wouldn't worry about it. If it is breathing heavy you might aswell just drive on until it goes bang and then fit another engine in. They're cheap enough. I drove my 300tdi with a melted piston for 5 months. It still dint go bang.

No it dont seem to rattle. Will check breathing when Daftlett bring it back next. Any ideas why it runs out of breath at about 3000 rpm? Turbo/ hoses/ fuel/ pump?

any of the above. Plus wastegate seized, vacuum hose split, blocked air or fuel filter, fuel pipe drawing air etc etc.

What's it like to start? First turn of the key or a bit of cranking?

Starts furst time ( except for the very cold weather which needed two hits of the glo-plugs) hence changing them. Replaced aur filter and fuel filter and cleaned sedimenter. Checked wastegate - seems to move ok. When it didnt like starting it seemed to be running on 2 or 3 for about 30secs. Now no power until warm ( well off cold as it dont get hot). New thermostat too.

Havent cleaned intercooler- surely that int a problem on non egr systems? Did have look and it didnt look too bad, but it wint do any harm to give it a clean.

Has to be worth taking the fuel tank cover off and checking the fuel pipes. Lift carpets in boot, remove six screws, remove plate, have a look!! Be careful with the screws, they're usually pretty rusty and crap to remove, I replaced mine with stainless.

The nylon sender unions crack and split and let air in and the fuel pipes get rusty, get holes and let air in .. ;)
