Getting my first Landrover..freelander 1 td4

Thanks m8. Engine wise it accelerates really well. Starts easily and ticks over quietly.Brilliant brakes and good clutch. Think it's been well looked after..... Apart from the tyres being wrong. Generally tight and quiet and young for its age.

Joking aside never had a freelander but by the sounds of it youvé defended every reason the guys in the know have questioned.
My main worry is your buying from a dealer not a garage and buy the sounds of it not getting a great warranty( I think you mentioned 30 days) if any problems you´ll be dealing with a third party for repairs not a great option in my book.
Your in Lanark? and I think vehicle came( from Norfolk might have got that wrong) as a part exchange even so if part exchange owner should be around any chance of checking with them ?
Anyway good luck as it appears the dealer wants top dollar for it so should be ok but if not plenty advice from members whove been there on how to spend the cash to repair it

There's also a Penrith sign in the back and a Southampton spare wheel cover. At the moment I'm happy with it. Waiting to hear back from the mechanic who I already know and is not in with them. He will tell me what's what. I do accept that there may be hidden problems that could be expensive. However I have no evidence of that. Main concern is mismatched tyres one being baldy. It drives and feels and looks like a well looked after younger car.

I think most of us here (sometimes secretly) having a few bits to fix, for me it's part of the fun of LR ownership.

If they are only dealers then who does their warranty work\servicing as I doubt every car they sell needs no work done before it's forecourt presentable( maybe it's the local garage?!)can they not give you any history on the part exchange?

There seems to be a guy there who fixes small things and more major work is done at a few local garages. There didn't seem to be any history on the car. Just think someone turned up and decided to trade it in on a 5-7k 4x4

Think they got parts today to do windows and rear wiper. Pre mot tomorrow and mechanic will tell me of anything else...and whether it's likely to last a few years.

So yesterday the mechanic did a pre mot. New brake pipes needed front and back. A track rod end new brake pads needed. Tyre and tow bar plate. He drove it and believes the 4 wd is fine as can't hear anything wrong. I've asked the dealer to get that garage to do the work and the mot and he has agreed. He's also in the process of fixing the 2 windows and the rear wiper.

And so all seems well.

Any recommendations on tyres?

Tyres? Depends what you want to use it for. Make sure all 4 are the same make, model and size.

99% road work including pulling a trailer. Occasional off road but not planning any serious muddy trails. Perhaps gently sloping sheep fields.

General grabber at2 are good all round tyres

The disco came with falken landair AT's, not done anything serious with it yet but they've got me through every lane I've been through so far. Mostly road biased though.

You will get all sorts of tyre recommendations from these dreamers. This is from many years successfully navigating Tescos carparks.

When I come to replace my tyres, this particular dreamer is going to go for Toyo AT (actually probably Toyo AT2) for no other reason than this bloke recommends them...

Whatever you choose for tyres. Just make sure that front and rear tyres must be identical

I certainly don't dream about my relatively cheap tyres, simply saying they haven't given me any cause for concern yet. What I want to buy are the Cooper ST Maxx, am only holding off because I'm yet to find (make up) a reason to swap perfectly serviceable rubber.

I didn't dream about tyres GG. I actually bought a set.View attachment 115542 Pretty good they are too, if a little noisy at speed.

Exactly my point.

Everybody has "actually bought" tyres - its a bit difficult to drive a car without them.

So, you ask for opinions on them or go to review sites and each type of tyre (without fail) gets 2 set of reviews or opinion...

Tyre A, Review 1 : quiet, hard wearing, fuel efficient, great grip - 10/10.
Tyre A, Review 2 : noisy, lots of splits and high wear, poor economy, dreadful grip - 0/10.
Tyre B, Review 1 : quiet, hard wearing, fuel efficient, great grip - 10/10.
Tyre B, Review 2 : noisy, lots of splits and high wear, poor economy, dreadful grip - 0/10.

So what's the point trying to buy a good tyre, or at least seeking advice! Buy cheap or enjoy a dream

I'm just imagining different possibilities and I think that what I'd like is something that will grip the road well if I ever come around a corner and have to do an emergency stop with a loaded trailer. Hopefully the tyres will match the really good brakes that are on it. Secondary by a distance is what they woukd be like on mud as that is unlikely. Long lasting and reasonably priced would be nice.
