Trooper or any other Jap but not a ****e Freelander :) :D
You will spend more time at the stealers oops dealers that the cat who lives there.

Ooops
I meant to say Than The Cat Who Lives There. and not that, Well it is 6.30am and I've been on nights, so good night

He does seem rather biased - dont he?
Wunder wot it was that turned him against Freelanders?

Maybe he could come up with some constructive improvements?

Wot do yu think the chances are of a meaningful discussion?

:D Tell me how many Troopers do you see from the early 80s or 90s ? Answer none they have all rotted away ! Daughter had one the chassis rotted instantly, gearbox fell out when mountings tore off the cardboard chassis, only good things are the engines that's why I've got one in my Landy. Add all the other things like b****er all articulation and the cost of parts when they do go wrong !! Ask Mr Burgins about the masterpiece 16 valve engine that self exploded after a few miles.

Me I will stick to the leaky but ever so long lived Landy that I can repair with parts bought loacally cheaply.

now now Chris! I think we should be more considerate to a fellow forum person. I think we should invite Trooper driver up to the lakes to show us wot a REAL 4x4 can do. It wud be nice to see an expert at work - wudnt it ;)

course "proper 4x4's like the trooper are well built and are totally reliable unlike the gaylander hippo thats why there are a plethera of sites very similar to this one to deal with the niggling litle problems assocciated with the trooper like blown 3.0l engines, recall notices, etc. for example http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/ and I dare say there are similar sites for x-trails , surf's and all other assocciated "proper" jap 4x4's

OF course the trooper is also one of the few 4x4's to score lower than the freeander in most dealer reviews including ,but not exclusivly parkers guide to used cars which says and i quote " Old school in looks and ability." it goes on to say "it's a fine workhorse for agricultural use and for towing. Not as nearly as refined as a Range Rover" I could go on but I won't I'll just wallow in the warm snuggly feeling that I am not the under any illusions as to the nature of my vehicle I bought with my eyes wide open and accept it with its many faults for what it is ........ fun to drive on and offroad.

And there was me thinking people bought Japanese cars for their reliabilty................guess I was wrong .

 the point I was making was even though the freelander has a a whole list of known faults I accepted this to be the case and still exchanged my hard earned cash for one. I know it has limitations as to its off road capabilities but still I bought one . But I feel trooper is being blinkered as what his vehicle can do and as to the fact that it too has a number of known problems even though its a jap made vehicle and as such is normally considered to be more reliable than european vehicles. I have not set out to diss any forum member or their vehicle I was just defending a vehicle I happen to own and still like bespite the problem other owners have experienced (so far I have only had minor niggles broken wires and flat battery lets hope it stays that way:p) .

And no I won't be coming up to the lakes my freelander gets enough offroad experience down in here in sunny South Wales.:)
