Hi,

My gearstick is jammed and the gearbox is i think in third gear, when i clutch the it comes out of gear, but i cannot get the gearstick to move its jammed solid.

Anu ideas,

Yes the vehicle will drive, i can clutch and the gears disengage but when i let the clutch out again it engages in gear. Its just that the gearstick wont budge.

besides taking the gearbox out, you could check the shifters in the tunnel, maybe the latch that stops you going directly in to reverse has broken and jammed the lever. if your lucky:p

Yeah I'd be lucking at the selector arrangement under the tunnel, the stick engages in an array of slots(you can see oall of this on top of the 'box when you remove the centre tunnel cover), the end of the selector lever may have worn and got itself stuck inbetween 2 of the selectors, jamming the box in third.
This should not be so hard to fix, if its not this though then you've got a bit of work to do as its a 'box out job, which on a lannie is a big job.

Yep me too, you have to take the box out of the passenger door, after you've removed that too, and support the engine on jacks or remove it.
Gearbox's can be sorted without special kit, but you need the right inclination and a bench and plenty of time.

Sometimes when tag breaks off bias plate it gets stuck under hear lever and hey presto jamed in gear. Easy fix, remove centre consul/ruber crap seal etc. Remove cover at base of gearstick , remove brocken bit(about 1 inch sq) should then get gears.
P.s. New bias plate about £5
pps got my disco for peanuts cos of this fault they thought it needed g/box:)

Have you offroaded it latley of been near any loose stones?

A common problem is a stone getting up there in the selector under the bent plate the ball sits in that is open to everything passing by. I would rip the trans cover off and look for anything that may jam it like a small stone etc.

Removed gearstick no broken pieces, removed cover and selectors look fine, draining oil to see if there is an debris in it, oil level seemed ok. Dropped one of the little pieces from between the selectors into opening, i couldnt beleive it. Hope it will come out with the oil. Is it easy to remove the selectors?

Thanks for the replies, it turned out to be a broken syncro clip } or detent spring jammed in the third and 4th selector, now all i have to do is try and replace them.
