The 300TDi Disco I have just bought has a few things I need to sort out, the most urgent being a problem with the R380 box.

Normally, in neutral a gearlever sits in the middle of the gate between 3rd and 4th, however this sits over on the left hand side of the gate between 1st and 2nd.

My old S3 109" had some spring and plate arrangments if I remember rightly that looked after this, is it the same with the Disco? I've just bought a Haynes manual which rather annoyingly tells you how to get the box out but says that any actual work needs to be done professionally! GRRRRR!!!!

Has anyone got any advice here? the S3 gearstick assembly bolted on the top of the box, where with the Disco the lever seems to dissapear straight into a metal ball in the top of the box. Please, please tell me that this is a job that can be done with the box in situ!!!

Any help gratefully appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Mine just started doing this today, went out this morning everything fine, came back, spent an hour fixing my left hand mudflap and panel. Went back out and the gear stick seems to want to stay over on the left hand side between 1st and 2nd.

There is definately resistance when moving over to 5th, but nothing in the middle (3rd and 4th).

quick edit - did a search and came up with this Gearbox Springs
