Gears do not engage with engine on or off?

Hi all,
not sure if you can help, I have had a look at a lot of threads already but cannot seem to find any with my specific gear problem.

I have a 2003 defender td5 (90). Its been running well (as well as a landrover can) and this morning I started it up no probllem but it would not move.

The gear stick moves as normal into the various gears (even without depressing the clutch) but there is no movement from teh vehicle? I did notice that in 3rd and 4th there was a slight 'rattle'?

I can put the gear stick into gear both with the engine on or off but nothing!? I have not noticed any problems with the gears before this.

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated. Its my first post (other than my original introduction) and I know little about the mechanics of the vehicle.

hi/low lever in neutral ,try with it in diff lock,then report back

Pretty sure it was in neutral, I will go and check (and also try with it in diff lock) and get back. Thanks for your speedy reply.
