Hello,

As many of you know, actually getting an N/A on big tyres rolling is a slow procedure, but I've just thought of something. If I throw my car into reverse and slam my foot on the accelerator, the thing shoots backwards at the speed of light and really really "pulls"! So, is it possible that I could get some other kind of gearbox, generally anything tough and reliable that will bolt straight on which alters the gearing so that I can accelerate and feel the pulling power of this engine! Basically is there any way to get it to set off and accelerate forwards as quick as it does in reverse? No engine change involved. I'm just curious!

Noo! I've just put bigger tyres on it. Is there not a different gearbox (from any other vehicle) that I could fit to feel all that torqueey power that it has when accelerating in reverse?
 
Low range is ridiculously low! That's what I'm trying to think of, hopefully there is, cos it could possibly go like **** off a stick!
 
I should imagine there is one that you could use. Hah I had an old warrant officer who used to say "come on pukes, I want you out of here like greased weasel **** of the end of a shovel!"
 
Bear in mind pos that reverse will feel a lot quicker, cos you are slipping the clutch, and there aint a seat to hold you in place.

Try sitting on the bench seat on the back and get someone to pull away hard both ways - you will find its not much different.

If you are worryoing about the take-off speed, why do you own a LR! :D
 
I wasn't slipping the clutch though, thats the point, I was just whack it up and go! The engine didnt struggle, where as it did a little in first if I came straight off the clutch.

As for accelleration in the NA, i drove one for 2 years, didn' bother me too much. The TDi does make a really nice difference though!

As for gearing, you could look for an early 110 x-fer case, cos they are lower geared, or as said above a much rarer ex-MOD main box.

Or put smaller wheels back on! :D
 
It doesnt bother me that much but if I can get it to accelerate like it reverses it would be great! I saw 4 TDI military defenders rallying up at cropton forest yesterday but their acceleration wasnt all that great either!
 
Fooking ell POS yer should of said I was Marshalling at section 21.. All day,, Yu cud have come ovva fer a chat, cud have filled in a couple of hours of me day then. & they was Wolf XD's

Did you have a red disco by any chance? There was me, my dad and two of his mates! They all work at Airedale aircon with the Chief Marshall who was at Pickering services all day.
