Having issue with with wife's l322. Seem when starting off cold car is reluctant to change up stuck 30 mph. Seems ok when warm. Took out last night for half hour after been stood for 3hr and no issue at all.

Says it judders when doing it. Was thinking gearbox.

Any ideas?

2003 td6 130k. Had 3 year not had oil change since we had it.

Was sceptical cos year after we changed oil on td4 it failed lol

It's going in for new pads Tuesday strange this started when pad warning came on but likely a coincidence.

First happen whilst towing last week. Only been out about 10 mins in that instance. No warnings on dash. Out our drive is straight up hill and doing it cold wont shift up.

Hmmmm at that age and mileage, gearbox could be on its last legs....

That being said the L322 does suffer stuck callipers so maybe your pads are so worn the pistons have extended too far and are grabbing or rubbing causing a judder....

More than likely the gearbox though.....never do a full megaflush as this will kill a tired gearbox. Better to change as much oil as you can drain, change filter, renew oil...run it for a few hundred miles, then change the oil again.

The reason i would advise against a megaflush on a RR gearbox is that ATF is a very good detergent....if you replace all the fluid with new, this can start to dislodge crap that is harmlessly hidden in corners of thebox doing no harm nor foul, into the box trashing it.

Better to slowly introduce new oil by diluting it with some old oil so it doesnt get this sudden shock to the system so to speak!....then change it again to further dilute the old oil with new!

Ok had breaks done so can be ruled out.

I had a drive over weekend. Was on motor way and car wouldn't exceed 50-60 mph for a period. Foot flat but no noticeable revs just no power. Slight gear box judder. Would then be fine.

Will judder occasionally when floored. Bringing to wonder if it's the torque converter or would that show up as surges in revs?

prob your gb rad coolers blocked ,change it you might be lucky

Have you even drained the gearbox fluid to see the state of the box ?

Going into a gearbox specialist tomorrow.

Had trouble getting over 20-30mph earlier then ok. Same issue as at 50-60 on Sat. My suspicion is torque converter clutches, although its doesn't rev - but i'm no expert.

I checked crank case breather and oil pressure last night to rule out turbo failure.

Failing that i'm going to need a good independent in Sheffield/Chesterfield - any ideas?

If it's not revving up, ie slipping then I doubt it's gearbox related
Probably engine issues

Its the judder that make me think it g/b.

Quite literally I had it floored on the M1 and 60MPH - revs 2500-3000. Zero response. Tried up and down with the manual and eventually dropped a gear then ok.

Wife reported same issue today arond 30-40MPH.

Eased off and back on a few times and it came good.

Weird - MAF maybe, split hoses, turbo but was zero power like in limp home but held speed, speed sensor issue, injectors - but no misfire and run fine, fuel...

Wondering if I might be best getting in into an indi to run diagnostic

Diagnostics could help. Surprised you haven't got your own kit

A must have !

I wish I did!

Change of plan I've booked it in the Cavendish LR in Chesterfield for a diagnostic as i'm not sure now its the gear box on Tues. Hopefully avoid an expensive guessing game.

Have you actually checked the transmission fluid level? Sounds like it could be low to me.

Regardless, using a L322 diesel to tow and neglecting to change the fluid at all is asking for trouble.

If this was a P38 Diesel we'd all be going on about MAP sensors, EGR valves, Bunged up Intercoolers, Split/Delaminated Turbo/Induction hoses, Crank Sensors, No4 Injectors, In Tank Lift Pumps etc etc....

Now seeing as though this is an L322...it doesn't have a No 4 Injector as it is a common rail engine, but it could still suffer the others could it not?? Discuss....
