Hi all

I'm about to buy a vehicle, but I noticed difficulty in engaging first and reverse gears, especially just after startign the car.

When engaging reverse the gears grind and crunch unless I really jam the gearstick into place. First gear is also quite stiff and requires a real push.

Is this is major (expensive) problem? The oil on teh dipstick was black, which may suggest that no oil has been changed recently.

This will be my first car, so I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Yeah a 2.5 Td5 S.

It seesm like there would be a big cost and headache difference between a bleed and a new clutch. Is there something I could do to diagnose further?

Thanks

wot happens when yu try pumping the clutch?
have yu checked fluid levels?

get yo local independant to quote for a replacement clutch and knock it of the price.

cud be release arm wearing thro - common problem.

I haven't tried pumping the clutch. I'd have to go back and check. Pump it while driving?

The only fluid I check was the engine oil, which covered the flat part of the dip stick.

They need to teach 'cars' in school!
