Before I use a lot of brute force and possibly some swear words, can anyone confirm that the plugs undo anti clockwise?
The hex is a 8mm? The one I tried seemed like a nice tight fit.

I have had a quick try to loosen the filler plug with a small amount of brute force and of course it won't shift.

So, I just want to check I am trying to undo it the right before I launch an all out attack.

I have discovered that it is anti clockwise to remove.

I have now managed to loosen the filler plug but the drain plug is not playing ball!

To make matters worse, I think the hex socket has crumbled a bit as I can no longer get my 8mm hex lever in there.
Not much room to see exactly what is happening as it is on the road and space underneath is limited. Sadly, I am not built for small spaces.
Think I might need to get this side up on an axle stand to give me a bit more room to remove this drain plug.

I am struggling to get the drain plug out. It won't budge and it feels like it has definitely crumbled to a certain extent.

Not much room for hammering a hex into the plug.

So, has anyone any ideas to get this drain plug out before I give up and put it into my local garage to sort.

I would definitely get it up on axle stands to you more room. Then, I would apply heat with a blow lamp. If it still won't come undone with a ratchet, I'd get me impact gun out and force a hex bit in the plug.

I have already ordered two new plugs.

I don't have an impact gun but will look into buying one or I am considering giving up in this instance as bad back and frozen shoulder will make sleeping very difficult tonight after spending much time under the car.

I am not sure if there is enough room to use an impact gun.

I may well put it in my local garage and let them deal with it.

They might give up too but charge you for the pleasure. But maybe I'm just being too cynical...

Unusual not to be able to get the hex bit in - when they round off, the bit does in but doesn't bite?

If it doesn't rain too much tomorrow, I will get the wheel off and have a better idea if an impact wrench could get at it.

There is no impact driver showing if that is what you mean???

Lost in communication, Theres an impact driver (Like electric drill) and impact drive like the draper (link) i posted. i'm more in favour of some mechanical brute force before using the aid of power tools

Hitting the flat face of the plug with a hammer will often compress the plug slightly, allowing it to turn more easily.
Otherwise a chisel and hammer will get the job done. ;)

Halle bloody lujah!

Even with the wheel off, there was not much room for using brute force.
I purchased a manual impact driver with the right size and type bit.
Not enough room to use even that.

So, I used a long socket set extension bar and as best I could, I clobbered the bloody thing several times.
I then hammered the correct bit into the plug and with quite a lot of effort and an extension bar to create more leverage, it undone. :)

New plugs arrive tomorrow so will finish the job tomorrow.

Not much oil came out, how much should there be in there?

There were no washers on either of the plugs, is that right?
