If you do end up changing bthe clutch, it is possible to by sliding it back and resting it on the crossmember, this is how I did Cassies' about a month ago. 1 trolley jack and a bottle jack to help put it back. About 3 hours to drop the box and the same to put it back. Sounds like clutch to me. Good luck.

Sounds like a case of to much "Enthusiastic" Driving on the plains! Lol! Probably filled every orifice with mud!!:hysterically_laughi you do love to play mate! I'll try and pop round Thursday and take a looksee, you can put the kettle on! :tea: By the way, Lotey and I washed both trucks friday, then I couldnt get in the 90 saturday morning due to it being frozen solid, and then I went to drive the Disco Sunday and the handbrake was frozen on!! Good times!

Lol! Ive left mine off to!!
Note to self, leave mud on the underneath of the disco and dont point Jet wash up there!!

I only replaced my shoes the other week and have only been off road once since. I have the luxury of it being a toy so it's kept in a carpeted garage 6 days a week so I can leave the handbrake off. That didn't stop it freezing on though. Shows how cold it must have been.

The handbrake on the Disco has been crap since Ive had it, so was going to look at adjusting it or putting new shoes in for the up and coming MOT. The Disco is my toy to, use my defender everyday, defender does 25-30mpgs, Disco does 12-16mpgs:doh:, although I do forgive it for that with the noise it makes! its a case of Smiles per mile!:)

My uncle, who did his apprenticeship at BMW just as they bought Land Rover (So he did a lot of time there too), assures me that they never worked new. He used to do the checks on them coming out of the factory and they used to come out gushing oil. Apparently the oil seal inside the drum leaks anyway so even if it's perfect, it won't hold it.

I reckon its one of 3 things....
1) intermediate gear drive broken ie no drive from output shaft of gearbox to input on Tbox.
2) clutch plate centre sheared.
3) massive oil contamination of clutch surface.

Have now taken gearbox out and when turning the input shaft I have no drive from the output shaft would you say this is the intermeidate gear drive or could there b another reason also theres no crunching or grinding
Any advice apprecatied thanks dan

Good chance the splined bit in the center of the clutch plate has broken away from the friction plate, happend to me some years ago.

no not yet on the list of things to do is it worth me takin the box apart to find out whats wrong or just getting it fixed or findidng another box thanks dan

You could open it to see whats wrong, but several special tools needed to effect a proper repair.best bet is get it repaired by a gearbox specialist.
