hi just wondering if anyone on here could point me in the right direction of my problem

problem in no drive at all can put in every gear with engine on without pressing the clutch ive taken the rear plate of the back of the transfer box where the main shaft comes from the gearbox and meets the main transfer box gear with the engine running and in gear the shaft is kinda ratteling it self round but when i hold it it feals like something on the other end is moving am i looking at gearbox problems or clutch any sugestions would be great am going to take the gearbox out anyway so any pointers on that to would be great thanks dan

yes lol have tried hi and lo box and in diff lock and absoulty nothing all 5 gears and reverse its a 300tdi and i was thinking either gearbox is fooked or clutch is stuck open so no drive any ideas

sounds like the clutch is stuck open to me aswell has it been stood up or used lots?

has been used 4 my daily drive 4 the last year i took it out on sailsbury plane on wednesday then thursday evening it went pulled up on the drive reversed of then went to pull away and no drive

it might be the the slave cylinder or flexi pipe . Does the clutch peddle feel normal ? . might be an idear before ripping the box/engine out to remove the slave and try and start it in gear . Ive had in the past the flexi pipe delaminate inside and act as a one way valve .

Its worth a go anyway - nothing worse than thinking its defo something then finding out after it was something else .

clutch pedel feals like normal not solid or right to the floor soft and can change gear with engine running and no clutch but still no drive its almost like the clutch is stuck open would this happen with the slave cylinder/pipe or wold it stay shut so ide have to crunch it into gear with the engin on?

I reckon its one of 3 things....
1) intermediate gear drive broken ie no drive from output shaft of gearbox to input on Tbox.
2) clutch plate centre sheared.
3) massive oil contamination of clutch surface.

it might ! - but x2 13mm bolts to whip off the slave and try wont kill ya :D . it just seems strange that you went to reverse it after a normal drive and nothing - no bangs crunches etc .

no it reversed fine it was when i pressed the clutch changer into first went to pull away and nothing doent sound like the slave will try it though but looks more like im dropping the box out and having a look at the clutch ect

clutch is depressing as normal and returning to the normal height

before you rip the box out take the inspection plate off the clutch pedal housing and check the 2 lock nuts of the master cylinder output shaft are tight and adjusted correctly - it'll take a couple of minutes
