Gearbox fail :(

I was taking my sister to an important hospital appointment yesterday. Going along the A303 we had a horrible clattering. So pulled over quick.
At that point it would not select reverse and after getting recovered back home it wouldn't go in to any gear and it wasn't making a good noise...
So not had any word from the garage yet, but it sounds pricey...

The stick moves ok just does nothing when you do.

had box oil checked /changed recently ,if it has no drive and box is noisy ie not broken half shaft ,prop uj etc r380s are prone for loosing all teeth on input/lay shaft usually complete right off ,presumably when it lost rev all other gears were lost too?

It had the oil done a couple of months ago.
It is a r380.
It did have 1st (didn't try any faster) but no reverse, then after going about 50yds lost 1st too.

the layshaft has gone it happened to mine. if you stick it in 4th gear it should move as 4th is a direct gear i had to get a recon box in the end .

Well the oil that went in 1500 miles ago came out black...

thats not good looks like a recon for you there is a guy on ebay who is based in birmingham who does recon boxes on an exchange basis for £375 with a 1 year guarentee hope this mite help.

is old box out ,proof of input/ lay shaft failure will be very loose input shaft

The garage is doing it for me... I don't have the skills. So I working on the idea they know what they are doing.

How quickly do you need it done and whereabouts in Somerset are you?

Could give you a hand to swap it out over a couple of evenings if you've got somewhere it could be done.......but not by Tuesday

I had a wiggle on my input shaft today...
It's like rattling a spoon in a bucket.

I'm hoping the new one will be in tomorrow.

let us know how you get on and all will be well soon until something else brakes thats the landy way.

Fully recondiction box installed. Cost a few quid but its done now.
