Gearbox dip stick.....?????

hi all iv just read a thread about checking dipstick on an 1998 dse auto box .is it me am i being stupid ,because i thought the rr classic has one but the p38 dose not. i see i have a red dip stick but that goes in to the sump ie engine oil. my auto box a 1998 dse has a drain plug and a level plug thats checked when in neutra engine runningl after selecting gears right? or am i missing some thing here????

if you missed it , seems we missed it together !!! my classic 1992 defo has dip stick , yellow top . v8 4.2 .

yea rave says check dip stick but never found one on mine was told the classic has one but often wonderd why it was a red dipstick in sump

I have a 1998 DSE and the autobox dipstick is next to the engine one.

Early P38's had an autobox dip stick, my 96 has one, my 2000 does not.

makes no difference whether stick or plug they both enter sump in the same place and level is the same ,

sorry mines a 1999 did it get removed im confused now i have a drain and level plug what part of the box does the tube go in becuase mine must be missing

as above you ,either can be fitted if you get the right sump

The dip stick was not fitted from 99MY on

Ah that answers a question for me, as mine is a 97 (V8) and the box doesnt have a dipstick, so i guess its had a new box at sometime?

In reality, LR probably just stopped fitting them at some random point when the stock ran out

MY 1998 dip stick. MY 1999 no dip stick. BUT mine is registered early 1999 but has a dip stick, so was made 1998. So there are anomolies. A 1997 should have a dip stick, it has either been modded. (Dip stick brackets have been known to crack off attachement to block, the plug would be cheaper than a new dip stick) or it's had a new box.
