Ok so where to start i have read loads of excellent posts on vibration, gear stick wobble on the Freelander mine is a 2005 TD4 78k miles ..i have tried to sort it out myself but i am running out of ideas and cash lol......problem i have is all seems fine up to about 35-40mph and then it starts the vibration through the gear stick if you hold it and increase speed vibration also increases through the stick, i have no wobbles or vibration etc through the steering wheel, it tracks straight, brakes are all fine no pulsing through pedal etc, no whining, metal grinding or any weird noises from either the rear or the gearbox... just this vibration as the speed increase..still there when you freewheel at that speed as well
i have changed the VCU unit and bearings for a new one from Bell Engineering, fitted a new Propshaft as cv joint on it was knackered, have changed diff oil,IRD Oil, checked all diff mounts all seem ok..checked the engine mounts as well they too seem ok i then checked tyre wear, psi levels etc...i am going to get it back up on the lift tomorrow and check the inner cv joints on driveshafts as i cant think of anything else that can cause this this vibration...The gearbox and clutch all work fine no noise from either, no diff whine either.....This is frustrating the s**t out of me lol....anything else guys with more experience may suggest i will check will check the IRD support bracket as well when it in the air that was suggested in another post....

Was it like it when you bought it, or did it develop over time? If its always done it, check that no one has put aftermarket driveshafts on it.

Cheap aftermarket drive shaft was my first thought too. I had the same problem with Eurocarparts drive shafts but my car had a lift kit fitted which probably made things worse. Reconned GNK drive shafts from Eurocarparts fixed the fault.

It was vibrating when I got it.. The propshaft bearings were shot as well as the CV joint on the propshaft so I assumed it was those causing the vibrations. But changing those have not solved it..I will check the driveshafts as suggested tomorrow when I get it on the lift.. hopefully it is them so I can stop feeling as if I am driving a washing machine lol

Post pictures of you findings. ;)

Prop shaft issues will give a vibration through your bum but drive shaft issues show in the gear stick. At least that's what I've seen.
OEM drive shafts from GKN have deep indents whereas the aftermarket ones are round with no indents.

That's correct Ali. An out of balance propshaft or VCU will cause vibration along the car's centre line, which isn't felt through the gear stick, but through floor. Stiff or aftermarket driveshafts cause the whole power unit to oscillate forward and backwards in its mounts, shaking the gear stick, as it's linked to the gearbox. ;)

Let us know how it goes. Remember that genuine GKN shafts have that unique scalloped shape to the inboard joint. ;)

GKN Driveshaft fitted at weekend and all vibration away the old driveshaft one of the bearings had collapsed inside inner CV joint...well at least it now has New VCU unit and Bearings a Front propshaft section, and a Driveshaft along with new calipers discs, pads and shoes, and all new fluids filters done front and rear.....what could possibly go wrong now lol.......thanks for steering me in the right direction and also good advice on not buying cheap driveshaft..........cheers very much appreciated
