Driving from the SW to Kent this week when it was honking down and a couple of funny things happened. Firstly it suddenly went really cold; thinking I was having a supernatural presence I hurridly scanned all the instruments for a sign and noticed the external air temperature was reading 34 degrees, obviously wrong. Turning the heat right the way up or down made it move in the same direction slightly but I couldn't persuade it lower than 22. The only way I could get some heat was by turning the HEVAC up to HI and sweated for the rest of the journey. Also the Alpine radio started rumbling at a constant volume independant to the controls, only on road solution was to turn it off.

Today I've driven from Kent back to the NE and both faults have cleared themselves. I'm guessing rain has got into the temperature sensor or connector, I believe its located somewhere behind the bumper/radiator. Could be something similar for the radio - don't the Harmon Kardon systems have separate door amps and rain may have given a ground loop?

It did go like a train though through all the rain, 550 (comfortable) miles and capping the tank indicates just on 30mpg, so no recriminations!:)
