Hello im new to this forum i have reacently brought my land rover defender 90 2.5td.

I noticed the other day when i was giving it a service that the pipe from the turbo to the injection pump had been blanked off using a ten mm bolt.
I reconnected the pipe and took it for a short drive, once i returned from my road test there was a loud hissing coming from the fuel tank and once opened fuel shot out filler hole.

What i was wondering is if anyone else has had this problem and how they solved it.

I beleve that the injection pump has a valve that should open when hard boosting maybe this is faulty forcing the air back through the return pipe to the tank i dont know.
Any help would be much appriciated.
Im located in basingstoke in hampshire

If you have it on the right place and not spill return, we have seen on here weird running due to boost diaphragm split and them running away when throttle pushed.

I'd suggest dig around for the threads and contact the people affected-because they bought pump spares

Cool have been looking around here for related threads but not much luck so far, will keep searching.

If not il just do away with the 2.5td and upgrade to a 200tdi lump as this seems to be the enging to have.

sounds very much like the boost diaphragm has split and rather than fit a new one they blanked off the pipe sometime in its life.
i did mine last year after much head scratching to figure out what it was. somewhere iv got the part number? il have a look for it as lucas went under and the parts only available through delphi. was a pig to find one till i got the part number.
cheers. j

I am very very happy boy, thanks to you clever landy boys.My 110 2.5td could not get above 55 and then die.The feul tank was under pressure, not any more now that I have fitted a new boost diaphragm,it gets to 70(not that I want to push the old girl all the time) no problem.I phoned Atlantic they had one in stock sent it to me and got it next day, they were very help full, and even let one of their fitters give me some tips on fitting the new one.So once again lads thanks for your very helpfull posts
