Hi, I've just replaced the fuel sender & was wondering how to check it works & reads OK on the gauge before I put it back in the tank & reconnect the fuel lines. I've put my ohms meter on it & the resistance changes when the float is moved up & down as you would expect but reconnecting it will power the pump & I don't want to damage it running it dry.
The connections on the new sender are different to the one that came out so I had to do some minor mods. Sender was genuine LR (VDO Siemens made in Germany & the VDO pump made in Blighty) The plastic filter was a bit blocked & I also noticed one of the wires fell off the old circuit board which is probably why it stopped working!

Hi. There is a resistance table in the workshop manual for that sender showing the values at bottom, middle and top
Hi SF, thanks for that, would it be in the electrical library, if so have you got a link for it please ? as I can't find it in the workshop manual I downloaded.
Do you know if all the new sender units come with those female spade connectors or did I get the wrong one ?

I've never had a new sender in my hands so no ideea about connectors, the resistance table is in the workshop manual - fuel delivery system - description - fuel gauge sender but if it's genuine new it can't go wrong

Thanks again, I did manage to find a table for the low fuel warning light. I'll stick the meter on it tomorrow before I refit the pump.
Happy Christmas, stay safe.
