Freelander 1 fuel sender leak?

Hi All,
I have a bad leak on the sender unit at the top of the tank, just been out for an inspection and the black
ring that attaches to the white plastic? well had a quick go but not sure if it is a push fit or it screws on
or maybe it's broken? someone has been in there before because there was half a toilet roll mopping up the spilled fuel...any ideas please Thank You

The top of the tank is threaded. The black metal ring is a giant nut, which clamps the pump assembly down tight to the tank.
