Hi folks can anybody help a poor 1998 2.5 DSE Auto owner. I had problems when it would not start and called the RAC to my driveway. After a lot of fassing about and trying a new battery it started. I know I shouldn't but I did buy the new battery from them. I had the old girl booked in for MOT the next day through my local indy garage so I drove it straight round to him. Well the latest is that it passed the MOT but both the test station and my garage had massive problems starting it. Today I have been told that the fuel pump has gone. The diesel is not staying in the engine ( sorry for the technical jargan) and despite changing the return valve in the pump it will not work.
After changing all the air bags, air compressor and the wireless relay I am reluctant to walk away now I have been told the pump will cost £900 so if any one can tell me how I can get my hands on a cheaper option I would be truly grateful.

I take i they mean the fuel injector pump if it's going to be £900.00. Lots of things to look at starting wise before you think of changing FIP. Is pump in fuel tank working to start with. Are they saying fuel is draining back out of FIP leaving air in clear plastic pipe from filter to pump. If so that has not a lot to do with FIP. Check spill pipes are in good condition and O rings either side of filter are ok. Unless you have misunderstood what they were saying for a start in was unaware there was an NRV in the FIP. Someone maybe playing silly buggers with you. Take it to somewhere who know what they are doing.
