Fuel pipe leak problem TD5

Any advice welcomed, from what I've read could be air in system and need to follow a purge procedure. The RAC man couldn't get the thing going and towed me home.

Driving along absolutely fine, then the engine died. On inspection had fuel ****ing out of a (forward inner) hose at the filter (rear right wheel), reconnected but would not restart.

Sounds like fuel pump has air within?, any advice welcomed

Hi James, have replaced the air bleed valve & filter still same. Are there any tests even visual (i.e take a hose off) that'll prove it before I fork out on a new pump. Pump sounds noisy for 30 secs then shuts off

Also the local specialist (Brookwells) advises against using cheap td5 pumps, don't last long apparently. Do you have experience of these? thanks for your advice,

cheap pumps often dont work or fail quickly
place a container under filter with the bung out of the bottom, switch on ignition and see if you get a good flow or distrupted
 
Presumably, if the test you describe is successful, if I disconnect the inner forward pipe I should also get a good flow out of it. I would then know that the fuel has reached the rail
 
Update, managed to have the truck pushed onto the driveway from the roadside by a few helpers. Make's it a bit safer to investigate.
Removed the low pressure fuel return pipe (takes low pressure fuel back to the in tank pump) and I'm not getting a good flow at all. It sounds like there is little or no fuel in tank as getting an intermittent flow. So things as they are, providing the fuel gauge is not giving me a bum steer (and there is no fuel in the tank) are pointing towards the fuel pump. Next job, drain and remove the tank.
 
before you strip the tank out... I believe you found a pipe leaking at the fuel filter... and this has been fixed.
Complete a fuel purge cycle. When this has finished get yourself a can of easystart and give it a sniff whilst turning the key (you will need assistance).
Don't go crazy with the stuff but it might just get you going.
I've experienced fuel issues where purging time and time again will not get it going. They do require a sniff sometimes...
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, I have tried the purging process (ignition on for 6 x 30 secs, ignition off, throttle peddle hold down, turn and try to start with throttle down) once I'd got the truck home, no good. RAC tried the easystart at the road side but will give it a go again in combination with the purge process.

With the LP return fuel pipe removed from the fuel filter, I get a measly amount of fuel at the filter with strange sounds from the pump. Was hoping to drain the tank via the pump but does not look likely.

Try this.... Turn ignition on. Now push the throttle down through its full travel 4 times one after another.. You should hear the fuel pump cutting in and the engine management light flash. leave it run its cycle, this should take around 6 to 10 minutes. in this time the fuel pump will start and stop pushing the air around the system back to the tank.

When the cycle has completed try a start. If unsuccessful try a squirt of easy start. This is best done with a full battery so charge it or get some jump leads connected.
 
Well, still no go. New fuel pump now fitted, can't hear air in the system but still a non runner.

Get the following error codes on icarsoft but I do wonder if the codes are just because the thing won't start.

1) Manifold pressure circuit fault
2) Inlet air temp circuit fault low
3) Multiplex input circuit fault low
4) 1% reference voltage fault low
5) Driver demand 3 fault low
6) Ambient pressure circuit fault low.

Will carry on tomorrow see what I can find but was really hoping the pump would have sorted it. Any advice welcomed :(
 
I had a similar issue and changed fuel filter then fuel pump without improvement. Turns out it was the injector seals were loose so engine was unable to pressurise, once I had the washers changed all was fine.
 
Thanks for reply, its just very strange that it was driving absolutely fine until the fuel pipe popped off the filter connection, reconnected it, pump started making odd noises, replaced fuel pump and nothing since....
I may as well check them, nothing to lose as haven't a clue at present...thanks again

Having checked everything after replacing the fuel pump, still no go......until I gave it a quick couple second burst of easystart. Now running all good starts fine ( just the fuel gauge not working ) thanks for the suggestion, must've just needed dragging through the injectors
