Fuel leak

Hi

I've got a 2001 TD4 which currently has a bit of a fuel leak. I've traced it to what looks like some sort of valve just below the fuel filter but I'm not 100% what it is and so wondered if anyone could identify it for me and point me in the direction of where to get one from. I've attached a picture

It says Pierburg on it so some sort of filter probably. Not standard equipment, looks like an after market add on with hose clips.
I would check the original filter is actually connected in as it may be a cheap modification!!
Can't see if the leak is from the unit or the clips.

My 2002 car doesn't have this bit for sure.
 
Thanks for the reply. Whenever I've serviced it there's always plenty of fuel in the main filter when I’ve changed it so I'm assuming it's connected in. I'll give the clips a tweak to see if that sorts it

Any idea why someone might have put it in and where I can possibly get a replacement if it is leaking?
 
Are you sure the leak isn't above and running down and sitting on the thing? Pipe looks damp above your pinky.
 
It looks like a non return valve, or maybe some form of pressure reducing valve, but it's not OE, and is best removed.
 
I am almost sure it's original on the earlier Fl1 with the fuel filter in the engine bay, it is on the R40 M47 engine, it is a non return pierburg cannister.
They can fail no longer available new or at least i don't think so

Presumably it can be simply linked out, if the rater cars don't have the?
 
Thanks for all of the help much appreciated

I've had another look and there is also quite a bit of fuel around the top of the fuel pump in the engine bay where the hose goes into it. As such I'm going to remove the hoses from this and the now infamous non return valve, check for perishing and replace all of the jubilee clips to see if that stops it.

When you replace the clip s use these below as they grip better, whereas the jubilee clips that are fitted now splay out the hoses on the end.
