HI all

i been working on a defender 90. i got the landy home and the fuel guage was working but im not sure if it was reading right. For some reason it stop reading all togeather. When i decided to check if there was a live feed going to the tank, the fuel guage needle mooved up all the way to the half way line. With a smile on my face i decided to turn everything off and then back on again. After this it was back all the way down in the red. After that i decided to turn everything off and back on again and then it wasnt reading anything at all. I decided to go out an get some fuel to see if it would budge but still no joy.

Would anybody happen to have any idea or advice on how to fix the problem before i fork out on a new parts :( Or even advice on other checks i could be doing to get it working :)

Thanks in advance

Ben

no replys lol ok

well i went out today an turn the key. still said the tank was empty till i went at it cave man style an give the top of the fuel guage system a good smack and then the needle said i had half a tank. i tuen the key off and back on again and it went right back up to the half way line. i turn the engine on and i think the vibrations of the enginw as effecting it because the needle was slowly moving all over the place. wouldnt give me a steady reading so it looks like im going to have to replace it

sounds like a loose wire clip somewhere. are they all tight on top of the tank? give em a wiggle. next place to check is wires to rear of guage. i don't think it is a damaged wire earthing coz it would shoot all the way to the top! just a loose connection.

just went out an had a little gander then. i wasnt getting a reading so i give the wires a little wobble and nothing happened so i give the plug sockets a little wobble and the needle started moving up :) i think i will take it out and take a look at its condition as well. are they easy to get out? i didnt see any screws or nuts. dost it just twist out?
