Hi guys ... quick question that I can't find an answer for although some came quite close when I searched ... honest! ;)

Just getting through the jobs on the new 110 200Tdi, one of which is the fuel gauge stuck on full although the fuel warning light works. I thought the sender must be the culprit so I plugged another one in (without fitting it into the tank) and it showed the same fault. I then proceeded to check the wiring on the gauge which all looked fine so am now assuming the gauge is faulty. At some point though the gauge dropped to 1/2 full and the light went out so I tapped it and the light came on and the gauge went back to full. Does this mean that the light works through the gauge wiring or is it separate? I've got a 2nd hand gauge arriving soon but just after any other ideas from other folks experiences. I know the wiring could be shorting in the loom but that will involve fitting a whole new wire from sender to gauge if the new gauge doesn't work I guess

Answers on a twenty pound note please ... PM me for postal address :D

pfm mate just accept it.

Is there a short on the wire to the fuel tank and would this make it show full.

Maybe unplug the gauge wire from the back of the clock and see if it still reads full, if it does, gauge goosed, if it doesn't maybe a wiring issue.

The gauge returns to empty when the ignition is off so it's certainly not stuck. Just wondering how the warning light works really because if it's the same wire from the sender it should mean that the wiring is ok to the dash ... I would assume?

It's definetely wired up all wrong....shorting and sparking.....

Yer brain that is...............How else can you reconcile prefering things to work and a 22 year old tratter? :p

Mine works a guide to what might be left. My first week of ownership saw me stuck beside the road after running out. The needle was near the 1/4 (above it) and the light never came on.
Now I fill when the needle suggests half a tank left and i keep 5L in the car for special Landy occasions.

Two wires on the sender SH ... with or without lamp. One sends voltage to the sender, one brings it back and then it gets earthed at the gauge ... I think ;)

Um my friend, I may be wrong but deffo thought different with the 90's tank under the driver's seat - i'll shut up and observe from a distance:D

By the way, pleased you found your 110

Thanks SH ... it's a little tatty bodywork wise with rusty cappings and oxidised doors but the chassis is solid ... unfortunately it needs Waxoyling so ... here I go again

Sorry for a bit of a hijack but I'm on subject at least! My 89 200 tdi 110 ( originally a 19j) has no fuel light and the needle works fine down to a 1/4 of a tank and then stops working :( any ideas where to start to put it all back to normal?

I'd be suspecting the sender presuming the needle falls to zero when the ignition is off (i.e. needle not stuck)

Remove the sender (more of a pain in a 110 than a 90) and see what the needle does if you move the float by hand

I bought a new sender for £14 as this was what I thought would be the problem. I connected the new one without fitting it just to be sure and it turned out to be exactly the same. So ... 2nd hand gauge it was!

After replying to this thread, it seems like I have the same problem after breaking down (running out of Diesel) with almost a full tank showing on the gauge.

Time to get the sender out and test it !

i have to ask how you thought you had nearly a full tank and didnt think that strange considering the miles done.

If your landy is like mine, i know roughly how far i can go on a tank.

Good luck with the fix. :)
