fuel gauge not working

the fuel tank gauge on the landy im buying is not working.

the gauge shows full deflection when earthed
the wiring going to it all looks ok
the sender is only a couple years old and when tested via a multimeter and lifting the arm, it works.

any one got any ideas ???

the landy is a 3.9 V8 EFI

maybe the gauge isnt compatible or something?

Voltage regulator? duz the temp guage seem to work ok?

Or the wire is bust somewhere between tank and gauge.

As you have been able to test the sender, do this: IGN ON, then take the wire OFF the tag on the tank unit, and short it to earth. The gauge should go to the top of the dial.

If it does, tank unit would seem to be phukt.

If it doesn't, suspect a break in the wire.

just been speaking the the guy im buying it from, he said the wires seem to be fine, bit confused.

as far as im aware the temp gauge works fine
