fuel float switch?

Hi Everyone,
New to this site, read a few threads all looks good.
Need to ask a Q, My deisal gauge is on empty the light is on showing low fuel but I have a full tank (keep the comments in ya head please!) I'm presuming the float switch in the tank is stuck? How can I fix this please? Thank for your help guys

Canal Boat.

Empty all the diesel out and then the guage will be reading correctly.
