On a very wet journey, mucho rain and wind, the Fuel Filter light came on for a couple of minutes and then faded away, 20 or so miles later same thing? 2003 TD5 that had just had its 60,000 mile service and had filters etc replaced. Was running beautifully at the time. Is this normal? Should I invest in a snorkel ?

The fuel water sensor is screwed in to the bottom of the fuel filter. If the plug was not reconnected or not seated properly water can splash up from the wheels and road on to the sensor plug and bring the light on until it dries out again.

If you disconnect it make sure its taped up or sealed in a bag so it cant get wet and give false readings. Its very sensitive as you can prove by dipping it in a glass of water and giving it a shake. Sometimes the light will stay on for several minutes after shaking.
