I have been servicing my defender for the first time, done the oil and 2 filters and the air filter...

But the fuel filter I have looks different to the on thats on the 90.....

The one on my 90 has wires coming out of the bottom of it? Do I just pull this plug down and out??? The fuel filter I have new is the ssame outside shape but has a plastic bottom and drain hole....

Just to confirm, the fuel filter is the part mounted to the chassis behind the drivers side rear wheel ???

Im a wally i know, but just want to be sure i am doing it correctly ;)

yes but you will have to change the plastic screw in piece on bottom of filter. without seeing it , it sounds like you have a generic filter, but the screwed in part should be the same.LEE

Make sure to fill the filter with diesel before putting it on should make it a bit easier to start afterwards and as Lee says the plug with the wire in it should fit the new filter. In the wheelarch on the drivers side and there should be a guard around it that you need to take off first.

Cheers guys - new to this landy and diesel thing! Just wanted to check as the wires going into the filter look a tad flimsy!

Will need to get some diesel ;)

Cheers guys - yet another example of how useful this forum is :)

the plug will lock into the filter so don't just pull it, you will probably have to press one side in to free it, look for a tab on one side to press in.LEE

The plastic drain plug on your new filter unscrews.
Separate the connectors from your old filter and unscrew the drain/sensor.
Clean it up and screw it into the new filter.
Keep the plastic drain plug in your motor just in case you break the fuel/water sensor off at any time.
