03 TD4, struggling to find the fuel filter, the Haynes says left hand side near the engine compartment bulkhead, it also has an arrow pointing to the L shaped cover for the engine management electronics. Looked but no can see ??? Shiny new one ready to fit.

You will find it is in the drivers side rear wheel arch, its a bit of a pig to do. Its easier to remove the entire cradle and fit filter on the bench. The filter was changed to wheel arch on 2002/2003

The rear wheel arch one is about 10" long cylinder about 11/2" dia with a single connector at either end.
It's not that bad to do really, but I would suggest removing it from the car. 10mm spanner for one bolt and 10mm socket for the other. The fuel pipe connectors squeeze to separate and the electric connector also squeezes. There is an earth tag which may well have come away or rusted off. Just make a new one.
Depending on the mileage of the car, you may want to replace the fuel pump at the same time as they die around 100,000 miles. Mine was in the blink from Shen I bought mine at 113,000 but finally worked out what it was at around 123,000 miles. See other recent thread re the pump.

Thanks for the quick feedback gentlemen, much appreciated. Mine has done 70k it runs very sweet, however on two occasions, weeks apart, it cut out after moving 20 yards. It started up immediately, but it had the feel of some kind of fuel supply issue, so I,m in a process of elimination. I understand that their are two fuel pumps on the TD4, I take it one is in the same wheel arch as the fuel filter ?

When they changed the fuel filter to the rear wheel arch, they also went to a single pump. If you do decide to change the pump then go for a OEM pump as some of the cheap pumps around have had bad reviews.
