how easy or hard is it to change a fuel filter on a 200 tdi, 1991 discovery? the haynes manual is not that clear for a complete novice to follow through, so any help is much appreciated as last thing i want is to dump a shed load of diesel on my driveway!!

i`m a complete novice in the mechanic stakes but willing to give it a try.

Its a screw on can, buy a new one, unscrew the old one, put a bit of grease onto the rubber seals and then screw it on hand tight, do not over tighten.

I don't think its the type that has a bottom plate on the 200, but incase, its the same idea, only you need to undo the top bolt which will drop the bottom plate, insert new filter and bolt up.

It should take 5-10mins.

The haynes is a bit dodgy, but i followed it when i di mine, and it wasnt that hard. It does make a point of telling you to drain it a lil from the bottom, although thats not needed really.

As DM says, just screw it off, and screw a new one on. lubricating the seals witha tad of deisel. Then if your woried about air, undo the lil bolt at the top slightly and prime the system through, with the manula fuel pump lever. Otherwise fire it up, and check for leaks around the filter.

Start to finish 5 minute job.

Thanks For The Advise, I Presume That The Fuel Filter Will Be Turned Clockwise To Release? As My Effort With Going Anticlockwise Didn`t Get Me Anywhere!

No its a standard right hand thread. You may need to use a strap wrench to get it to budge though.

When you put it back on, don't do it so tight that you can't get it off again, once the seal comes into contact with the assy, give it about a 1/4 turn, or whatever feel like a good fuel tight seal. Turning it too much after contact will lead to the seal not working properly.
