Save your money and just add up to 2 litres of petrol YES Petrol to your oil forget using diesel as this goes thick too just like oil in cold weather. This unit only heats fuel that is in the filter so won’t save your in tank pump anyway

Johhny

Yep I have added petrol but maybe not enough was thinking it too high a quantity would not be good for the fuel system.... you say 2 litres is that to a full tank you are adding that?

Sorry was typing fast as at work - should have read.....

add up to 2L of petrol per 20L of bio/Veg oil/WVO/Black diesel

Ahh I was dropping in about a litre or so for every 20 so will up it a bit to see what happens... can't wait till summer and good old warm oil....

have you had any issues as i thought it was upto 5% petrol to veg mix so not to damage engine!!

Not a single problem, I cover 400+ miles a week and started running on veg oil and petrol at 109K miles I now have 141K miles on the clock and still running perfect!

cool may start then as i do similar milage, have you tested it ina jar, ie does it seperate if left for a while..sometimes i get a whole 4/5 days withought driving it lol

theres a company on ebay that sell an ally block with 2 glow plugs, about £110 although got mine for £85 when they auctioned one, excellent bit of kit, running 100% oil all over winter.... sluggish to start (200tdi & now xedi freelander) but fires up and runs perfect after 60 seconds..... forgot to switch on once..... filter was clogged n engine light on in under 40 miles... ooops

i do add 50ml of cetane booster to 40 litres as well

cheers steve

is cetane booster the redex stuff?

may look at those, in an ideal world i want a 2nd tank but trying to find all bits to do it,

guna have small tank in boot for diesle, big tank for svo with heater, fuel line heater , fuel filter heater etc.

So add up all that cost, time and effort

and.....

it's just not worth it?

in your eyes may be not, but thos cars staying lng term so yes it is? if i run on straight veg (which i did last summer) i save approx 40 a tank

i fill up 2-3 times a month so 80-120 q month saving, 6 months iv got 600 which i could probably do the work for.

I hav been researching block heaters over the past couple of years, eventually settled on a webasto FBH, but one of these in the diesel tank would be great. Put on a timer for maybe half hour before you need the car and it would get the fuel fluid enough then maybe a 12v system could take over that runs off the car, maybe even put a temp switch on to turn it on and off at preset temps? Initial cost might be a couple hundred quid but the long term saving over one or two winters would more than pay for it.

Ok way too complicated for me Guys the fuel filter heater seemed easier to fit but obviously won't heat the fuel in the tank.... I have tried Johnny's advice and seems to start better with petrol mix.... cheers Johnny

maybe for you but I save £200 a month at present, was saving £400 a month when i had a supply of free oil and been running 200tdi for 5+ years, so a conservative guess would be £15000 saved over 5 years....

in my case most definately worth it....

Cheers Steve

I made my own heat exchanger plumbed into the heater pipe, it's as near to the injector pump as possible.
That filter heater will take a long time to have any effect and it draws a hefty 100 watts, add to that the lights, heater fan etc it's going to be quite a strain on the alternator.
