Afternoon - just a quick one - help needed. I have just put a new fuel filter on my 19j - first replacement. On bleeding it haynes says to pump the lever - where the fek is it? Can some one give me a clue please as what i thought would be a 2 min job is annoying me.

Thanks

Usually just to the right of the filter, have a look and you'll see a small lever on the fuel pump.

Does it need bled? Usually filling the filter up with diesel before you put it on does the job well enough

I must be going snow blind as i cant see anything looking like a lever? Def needs bleeding as the git wont start - its pi**ing down here now so ive shut the bonnet and retired to FA cup 2nd half!! Anyone who is kind enough to post a photo where this little blighter is on a 19J - much appreciated.

Cheers for link - its the finding of the pump which is still dazzling me!!! Where is it on a 19J? All will be well once found........
The lift pump is on the left hand side of the engine block, towards the back. If you follow the pipes from the fuel filter, one goes to the injector pump, (the large pump that the throttle links to) the other pipe goes downwards towards the back left hand side of the engine. The lift pump has a circular top about 3-4" in diameter with a small dome on top. Attached to the underside of the pump is a small lever.

I think they're the same as tdi but if not I'm sure someone will say
This is best pic I have at mo

Sorry if its not the same

Thanking you very much - as soon as city have lost (hopefully now with ten men) I shall take a lookies. Much appreciated - as usual you guys are fast and accurate with responses which makes this website the best i have ever been on. Cheers.

Found the pump - after "pumping" for ten mins no sign of fuel coming out of the bleed plug - plus pump feels very loose? Then the wire going under the pump lever has now snapped....for gods sake - i only wanted to put a new filter in!!! wish i never bothered!!!!

just open pump fuel bleed screw and turn engine on the starter after repairing wire

Any advice on repairing wire - ive just faffed with the connector and cant seem to get the metal bit out to reclamp the wire in? I hope I dont have to go and buy a new one tomorrow - more faffing!!!

Think its attached - the picture not the wire! you can see the wire on the left and the connection in the middle of the pic.

Looks like the fuel cutoff solenoid. You will need to fix it otherwise you won't be able to get the beast started. IMO needs soldering properly - you don't want the connection to fail as it will cutout the engine. If you can't do it yourself, find someone who can.

Soldering - bugger. Once again a simple service turns into a nightmare. Anyone live near Chorley?! lol

stop ****ing about, bare the wire back and crimp a new terminal on, clean the connector on the sender and put it back on.
