I took delivery today of the replacement Bearmach suspension kit, I had originally ordered a 2"lift kit but after advice from this forum I decided to keep it at standard height, so sent it back for exchange. Anyway I notice that they have sent me 4 identical springs, I was under the impression that the frount and rear springs were different sizes, the back ones being longer (at least according to their information in the Bearmach catalog) Can someone confirm this is the case or are they both the same, If my order is correct then it will save me ringing them tomorrow.

Sorry I know this thread is old, but I've read several of the threads started by you on lifting 2" or not.
My suspension (particularly the rear) needs replacing. I really cannot make my mind up on to lift or not to lift.

Started green laning recently and really enjoying myself. Only been stuck twice and both occasions were due to grounding out (on my steering guard:confused:), momentum lost. Recovery time.

I know you changed your mind and went for standard height. Any regrets?
How is your Disco used?

Hi, My Disco is my daily drive, and I also do a lot of miles every year in it, also a lot of towing. One of the main reasons I decided against the lift was the cost of replacing trailing arms and all the other bits that would have needed to have been changed to make it practical to drive every day. I do some laning and so far it hasn't been a problem, if I was into "real off roading" the I would buy a second vehicle and lift it and fit big wheels etc. But for everyday driving and the amount of laning I do, maybe twice a month, I think I made the right decision. Remember lifting it won't give you any extra ground clearance, you need big wheels for that, and in all honesty can anyone say that the extra expense of it all has got them further down the track than on standard set up?

Oh i don't know....
Just been watching this video. one of the Disco's was completely standard. seemed to manage it, but he hits the deck a little hard (@ 3:10) the raised vehicles scrap their ploughs, but no slamming the underside against the rocks.

More reading needed. I'm joining the local club next weekend and going to a driving day. I'm sure I'll pick up some advice there. Hopefully someone will have a D1 with standard, but not worn-out suspension then I can see how it would perform if i were to stick to standard height.

I understand the ground clearance, but I would have improved articulation and body clearance when ascending / descending.

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know what i end up doing and post pictures.
Cheers Nick.
