Hi, I have a 2002 P38 Petrol. I found that the wipers had been running by themselves overnight, by the time I found out the fuse had blown and the windscreen wiper motor had failed. First I tried a second hand motor, which worked fine with the ignition on or the engine running but continued running when switched off on the key or with the keys out.
Suspecting a fault with the park switch, I bought a new motor and assembly from a main dealer.
This is also running without the keys in.
The only way to stop them is to remove the fuse.
Has anyone any ideas, as I'm due to go on holiday with the car this weekend.

I'll have to check but I think they are operated from the BECM. Is the carpet wet in the drivers footwell?

Check relay 1 and relay 8 in the under bonnet fuse box and check for signs/smells of burning.

I have tried a used motor now a new motor from a main dealer. The new motor is slightly different in that the park switch has two wires instead of one on the old part. The fuse box looks ok, does not smell of burning. I have removed the plugs from the under side, all look ok.
Now you mention the fuse box, the week before I had the expansion bottle fail, so it might have got steamed.

Don't know to be honest if the relay 1 is not stuck down something is pulling it in.
